      Zeven jaar na het beëindigen van zijn muzikale carrière maakt blueszanger Oscar Benton toch zijn comeback! Op 12 januari verschijnt een nieuw studio album met de toepasselijke titel I Am Back. De eerste single Bensonhurst Blues Revisited, een bewerking van Benton’s klassieker, is nu beschikbaar. Het album I Am Back wordt op 27 januari gepresenteerd in Patronaat in Haarlem. Oscar Benton maakte in de jaren zestig en zeventig furore als blues vocalist. Nadat hij in 1968 het prestigieuze Loosdrechts Jazz Concours won groeide Benton uit tot een ware blues legende.
      Zijn grote internationale doorbraak beleefde hij echter in 1981, toen de single Bensonhurst Blues te horen was in de Franse film Pour La Peau D’un Flic met Alain Delon. De single groeit in diverse Europese landen uit tot een hit. In de jaren daarna tourt Oscar onafgebroken door Europa tot hij in 2008 ten val komt. Het ongeval blijkt het einde van een glansrijke carrière. De val richt ernstig hersenletsel aan waardoor Benton opgenomen wordt in een verzorgingstehuis.
      In datzelfde verzorgingstehuis verrast hij op zijn 67e verjaardag vriend en vijand door een schitterende vertolking van Frank Sinatra’s My Way ten gehore te brengen. Het blijkt de start voor een bijzonder project. Een volledig nieuw album, opgenomen met Barrelhouse-gitarist Johnny Laporte in het verzorgingstehuis waar Oscar woonachtig is.
